Ringleader's Revolt is a jazzy new album by the group The Beat Circus
that evokes circus music, early Fellini, the music of Nino Rota and Kurt Weill, klezmer, burlesque
and vaudeville. The use of tuba, banjo and accordion harkens back to the 1920s. Led by Ringleader
The Beat Circus: Brian Carpenter (slide trumpet, trumpet); Alec K Redfearn (accordion); Brandon Seabrook (banjo, sampler); Jim Hobbs (alto saxophone); Ron Caswell (tuba); Jerome Deupree (drums)

Critters Buggin - Stampede (Ropeadope) Sept 7
Stampede is the first album in five years from Seattle's eclectic
Critters Buggin. In the meantime some members of the group, which includes vibraphonist
Each member of the group brought a pair of compositions to
Stampede, which is a fun mix of electronica, rock, atmospheric funk and spacey jazz instrumental music. The sound and use of vibes
reminds me a bit of
Chicago's
Personnel: Matt Chamberlain (drums), Mike Dillon (vibes, percussion), Brad Houser (bass), Skerik (keyboards, saxophones, effects), various guest appearances including Bachir and Mustapha Attar, Jon Brion, Stone Gossard, Eyvind Kang
