Jamie Baum -
Moving Forward Standing Still (OmniTone
) Aug 10, 2004
Flutist and composer Jamie Baum's new album is
Moving Forward, Standing Still. Featuring an unusual front line of
flute, trumpet, French horn and alto sax, Baum has composed
a beautiful group of tunes inspired by classical composers Bartok, Stravinsky and Ives
that have interesting textures and spinning lines.
The players have room to improvise and the album also has a strong jazz feel. Colligan
plays electric piano on a few tunes that remind me of Herbie Hancock or Chick Corea's playing
during Miles Davis's early electric period.
— ALAN LANKIN
Jamie Baum Septet: Jamie Baum (flute, alto flute); Doug Yates (bass clarinet, alto saxophone); Ralph Alessi (trumpet, flugelhorn); Tom Varner (French horn); George Colligan (piano, electric piano); Drew Gress (double bass); Jeff Hirshfield (drums)
